David wins by a landslide “American Idol” Finale Latest Update
We know one thing about this season of ‘American Idol,’ David wins. The only question left to answer over the next two hours will be which David will win. (Note: This blog entry was posted live as the show was happening.)
In just two hours or about 60 minutes with the DVR fast forwarding, we will know which David will be crowned as the winner of “American Idol” for season 7.
97.5 million votes were cast. smashing the pervious record by 23 million votes. Interestingly enough, the vote wasn’t even close 56% vs.44%
This is one of the few finale shows that is actually fun to watch - at least for awhile. The first song and dance number featured the Idol top 12 along with the cast of Fox’s next reality TV ‘So You Think You Can Dance,” shameless plug. Hey did you catch the pan of Janice Dickinson of the “Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency” reality TV show.
Back after a song with the two David’s, Fox is plugging its upcoming movie “The Love Guru,” starring Mike Meyers.
Syesha Mercado returns to the stage with Seal… she looked she was having a great time on stage… I’m sure we will be seeing her on Broadway.
Jason Castro comes back tonight without the ukulele… his other version was tons better, it seemed like he was trying to channel someone, I just don’t know who.
Next, the two David’s get some wheel out of this Idol gig. Ford is giving the two an Escape Hybrid of their very own. Hey, I could use a new car too!
The top ladies are “Working Hard for the Money” as they get their Donna Summer on. To top it off, Donna summer comes out on stage to pimp her new album and sing with Idol rejects. Even Ryan joins in shake’n his grove thing to Donna.
Carly Smithson and Michael Johns get together singing “She Wrote Me A Letter,” showcasing their talents. These two had some great energy.
Jimmy Kimmel comes on stage to give the crowd and the viewers a recap of the show. I like Jimmey, but was this really necessary?
The top ten guys take the stage singing “Summer Of ’69.” Does Byran Adams have a new album? Yep that was a safe guess.
Next, oldie but goodie(?), on the Idol stage is David Cook with ZZ Top. “What a Sharp Dressed Man.”
Brooke White teams up with Graham Nash of Crosby, Stills and Nash fame to sing “Teach your Children.”
the next group up is… ?, I think I referred to them as filler a few weeks ago and made someone made… sorry - Thanks Google, they are the Jonas Brothers singing “S.O.S.” do you think they would have made it on American Idol?
Next up, the recap of the wacky and the weirdoes that didn’t make on stage… we’ve seen this all before - next.
I have to fast forward thru this section… OMG.
OneRepublic singing “Apologize.” I don’t think I’ve ever heard this song… At least they finally connected it back to the current Idol contestants with David Archuleta singing along with the group. If David would only learn to keep his eyes open. Wow, even Simon stood up after that one.
The current “American Idol” winner, Jordan Sparks takes the stage and shows us why she was last season’s winner.
Ryan rolls an “audition tape” for Gladys Knight and the Pips. Turns out, through some sort of editing magic, Jack Black, Adam Sandler (aka Ben Stiller), and Robert Downey Jr. are the Pips. Fun, but unnecessary.
Another Idol Alumni returns - Carrie Underwood.
Did you catch David Archuleta doing the “Risky Business - Tom Cruise” scene for Guitar Hero… genius!
The end is near! The ladies hit the stage once again followed by the men singing George Michael. It always amazes me how different these songs sound when sung by a group. Too bad the whole show wasn’t filled with more of these numbers where everybody gets to sing.
I should have seen this coming… George Michael takes the stage. Does he have a new album too. It would have been so cool to end on a song with the top 12. Was it me or was something off with his performance? What was that all about… it seems like a day later… we get back to IDOL! Perhaps you had to be there.
Before we find out who America voted for, Simon apologizes to David Cook. Cowell offered his apology “because I was verging on disrespectful and I don’t think you desevered that.” WOW!
Finally… back to the reason for the show… the winner.
The “American Idol” 7 winner is… by nearly 12 million votes…
David Cook! Congrats…
Do you agree with America?
Vote for the Idol Judge or Host who should go.
Catch-up on the whole Idol Season

Regarding the “did cougars ruin Idol,” question, I don’t think so at all. Believe me, my mother who’s 51 years old is obsessed with David Cook like nothing else I’ve seen, but isn’t that what this show is about? American Idol isn’t only for the teeny boppers, or the twenty somethings, it’s there to find an “idol.” That’s exactly what it did. It gives people like my mom something to get butterflies over, and that makes me happy. I like the guy too, don’t get me wrong. But mom, if I get anymore 1am phone calls about David Cook, we will have issues…By kim

I wouldn’t walk across the street to see/hear any of those contestestants. I fact there has never been a winner or contestant on any of these idols that I would purchase any music by. I did enjoy ZZ Top and The duet with Graham Nash.By melissa

I would like to say that I think it is a shame that Ryan Seacrest stated on national TV that a 17 year old lost by 12 million votes. to my knowledge they have never stated how many they lost by in the past, have they? I think it is criminal! I think we should vote Ryan off by 97 million, agree anyone… I can not believe FOX allowed that. for the record I like both Davids, but to tell a 17 year old, he lost by 12 million, I feel is cruel, I have emailed fox about this I hope you do too, because not 5 minutes after the show, all the news networks were reporting “by 12 million”… Shameful, and I think FOX should apologize!By dreamscape

David Cook is too cocky and, is it just me, he looks like a thinner and younger Phillip Seymour Hoffman. Also, to those of you who said “he made those songs his own”…PLEASE! If you look them up, most of the songs “he made his own” were previously recorded by another group doing a cover of those songs. He was just copying someone else’s version and had nothing to do with changing the arrangement. Chris Daughtry tried to pull the same crap back when he was on the show! I hate to say it but I am glad this season is over…I was sick of the Davids long ago. This season was sooooo boring.By Shantei

Yeah!!! I am so frickn’ happy!! David C. deserved it!! David A. singing “Apologize” was great. If he would sing more stuff like that in that genre, he would have won. And Craig S., OneRepublic’s song was produced by Timberland. I love that song.By blessed

I was so hoping that David Cook would win. Not that Archuleta isn’t good. I wasn’t convinced that he had the maturity necessary to be an American Idol. Congratulations to David Cook! I look forward to his first album…By CRAIG

I am so pleased David Cook won. He has a lot of potential for being very marketable. I love his sense of humor and BTW,both Davids did the Risky Business scene but David Cook’s version was much better. It took us a minute to figure out it was him and not the original. David A did his in boxers! Not cool!By Jesi

Did you know that the Coronation song that David Cook sang tonight was from a songwriting contest that american idol said was writen by an “amateur”? They said…. “All of the top 20 2008 songwriting finalist are “AMATEURS”. So would someone please, please find one amateur in this bunch, ok? How many will it take till someone admits this is fraud? 1. Top 20 American Idol Songwriting Finalist (Andy Zulla) is an engineer on Clay Aiken, Kelly Clarkson, Diana DeGarmo CD’s. 2. Top 20 American Idol Songwriting Finalist (Windy Wagner) is a backup singer on the NEW Clay Aiken CD. 3. Top 20 American Idol Songwriting Finalist (Ryan Gillmor) wrote the theme song for the Fox television show “Unhitched”. 4. Top 20 American Idol Songwriting Finalist (Dan Yessian) wrote jingles for Ford Motors. 5. Top 20 American Idol Songwriting Finalist (Luke Ebbin) is a producer on Austalian Idol 1st place runner-up Shannon Noll’s CD. 6. Top 20 2008 American Idol Songwriting WINNER (Regie Hamm) is a co-writer on the NEW Clay Aiken CD and he’s also a co-writer of the WINNER of 2007’s American Idol Songwriting Contest Scott Krippayne ….. Anybody see a pattern yet? 3 of the 2008 American Idol Songwriting Contest Top 20 songwriters get credit on Clay Aiken CD’s. Out of thousands and thousands of entries (At $10.00 each) 3 out of 20 work with Mr. Aiken. And nobody has a problem with this? I can’t believe it. America got it right. I thought Archuleta would win but Cook should win. David Cook will have hits and was, indeed, the most complete performer.
