Smashburger sets opening date for Brown Street location

The Smashburger at 1200 Brown St. near the University of Dayton campus is scheduled to open Feb. 24, Smashburger officials announced today, Feb. 1.

This will be the second Smashburger to open in the Dayton area for the Denver-based chain, following last fall’s opening of the restaurant at 2315 Miamisburg-Centerville Road in the Shoppes at 725 in Miami Twp. Smashburger and local franchisee group Rodenkirch Management, LLC are scheduled to open 12 restaurants in the Dayton and Cincinnati region over the next few years, according to a Smashburger news release.

“The response to our first Dayton location has been overwhelmingly positive,” Smashburger Founder Tom Ryan said in the release. “We look forward to bringing ‘better burgers’ to the University of Dayton and the rest of the Miami Valley.”

The Brown Street Smashburger will open with 32 to 35 employees, a Smashburger spokeswoman said.

A Smashburger spokeswoman said lease negotiations are ongoing for other Dayton-area locations.

The Pine Club burger is also very good. Tanks is a close second. Gonna have to try a Blind Bob’s burger though.

Slyder’s is under-rated. Burger lovers ought to do themselves a favor & try it. I love their wings, too. Just throwing out another top quality local place.

5 guys hamburgers…. big patties that taste no different than Wendy’s. Only toppings of a different variety. They could take time to peel their taters before frying. Expensive… but still just a burger and it gave me the runs within 30 minutes. Won’t go back.

Agree on the smashmouth burger being greasy. IMO, Tanks has the best burger for the buck. Voltzy is good, if you can get by the ‘other stuff’ that comes with a visit there.

I ate at the one on Route 725 a couple weeks ago. It was hands down the greasiest hamburger I’ve ever had. Worse yet it was undercooked. Ground beef shouldn’t be served rare. The fries were ok but nothing special. I’d rather eat at Burger King or Wendy’s. Better value and better food.

The sad truth for me is I’ve never had a burger at Tank’s. I always get their chili. Best in dayton, easily. Smashburger is not as good as Five Guys, but still good. Other places that are cheaper are better.

Smashburger is overpriced garbage. Tanks, Blind Bobs or better yet VOLTYZs any day of the week.

Pretty sure UD area already has better burgers from a local restaurant, just over on Wayne Avenue. Friends don’t let friends eat corporate food. Gimme Tankburger any day.
