Teen Vogue cover model is teen mom-to-be
The cover model on November’s Teen Vogue is a 19-year-old who is pregnant.
Jourdan Dunn is not visibly pregnant on the cover, and Teen Vogue editors didn’t know she was expecting at the time of the photo shoot, which she shares with Chanel Iman.
But Dunn does go on to discuss her pregnancy in the article in the magazine.
Editor-in-Chief Amy Astley said editors didn’t consider pulling the cover shot.
“Teen pregnancy is a difficult, real-life issue that Teen Vogue readers
(with an average age of 18) are mature enough to be exposed to,” Astley said in a statement. “Teen Vogue felt it was important to support, not punish.”
What do you think? Doesn’t matter? A big scandal? Or, a teachable moment for parents?

Pregnant cover model on a teen mag? That alone is depressing. Hopefully the magazine doesn’t glamorize the pregnancy. It’s a great outlet to promote real information about serious consequences like pregnancy. Your readers will be paying attention. Use it wisely.

Why is a Vogue allowing the pregnant teenager to remain on the cover depressing? I think it shows alot about how far our society has come in dealing with real life situations. I highly doubt they would glamorize teen pregnancy but it is real and it’s not smart to try and act like it doesn’t or cover it up. Good job teen vogue!

I think this only glamorizes an already bad issue - teen pregnancy. I do not think Vogue should have went on with the publication once knowing. There should be clauses against this instances such as this.

Why is this even a story? 19 years old is legally an adult. Readers with average age of 18 again age of adult. So are you saying my sister who got married at age 18 and had her first kid at 19 was a teen pregnancy? Get real I think so called teen pregnancy stats should end at the 18th birthday, after that they are adult pregnancies.

I think this is alright although it does have a huge impact on teens….I am hoping it don’t send out the wrong message meaning that it is okay to get pregnant and you can still be a model? This young woman is an adult but I think alot of younger readers will take it wrong and act as if it is okay to be a pregnant teen and you can still accomplish your dreams which we all know is really far fetched, This girl/teen was just verly LUCKY they didn’t know at the time. I wonder if they had known would she still have been on the cover?

I think it’s more appropriate for it to be an article in the magazine, focusing on how the reality of teen parenthood rather than glamorizing it with a cover pic. And yes, you are still a teenager at nineTEEN regardless. It’s only an issue because it’s in a teen mag…nobody would care otherwise.

I don’t think it takes a model or someone famous to turn a young girls head into thinking pregnancy at that age is glamorizing. We need to give young woman more credit. And I do agree at the age of 18, it isn’t a teen pregnancy this is a grown young woman.
