Hargett to lead Ohio Farmers Union legislative efforts
Greg Hargett has been named governmental relations director for Ohio Farmers Union (OFU). Hargett will work out of the family farm organization’s Columbus office and will be responsible for representing OFU at the Statehouse and with state government leaders.
Hargett, who will be coordinating policy efforts on behalf of OFU members and work to develop and implement legislative agenda, replaces Dick Babb, who retired as interim director.
With the new legislative session starting this month, Hargett said he’s ready to get to work. “We also must be mindful that the issues that are important to us impact lives of people who have never stepped foot on a farm,” he said. “When you consider country-of-origin food labeling and other consumer protection issues which are inherently a part of our concerns, it’s evident that our efforts on behalf of family farmers help protect and improve the lives of non-farmers as well.”
Prior to working for OFU, he served as political director of the Ohio Senate Minority Caucus. He worked for more than four years as district director for Congressman Ted Strickland and also served five years as Strickland’s campaign manager. In addition, he brings with him three years marketing experience in the private sector.
A native of Clermont County, Hargett earned his bachelor’s degree in business administration and political science in 1995 from the University of Rio Grande. Hargett, his wife, Jennifer, and their son reside in Grove City.
Hargett may be reached by calling (888) 610-4400 or through the organization’s Web site at www.ohfarmersunion.org.
