CINCINNATI — Tickets will be made available at 10 a.m. today, Oct. 12 for the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra’s Memorial Concert celebrating the life of Pops founder Erich Kunzel, who died Sept. 1 after battling cancer.
The concert will be conducted at 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19 at Music Hall in Cincinnati. Seating is limited, but there will be additional seating in the Music Hall Ballroom, where the event will be simulcast, according to a release.
The event is free. Tickets will be distributed on a first-come, first-serves basis at the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Box Office at Music Hall or by phone at (513) 381-3300.
The concert will be shown live to the public on Fountain Square’s LED Board. The show will include three of Kunzel’s protégés on the conducting podium — Cincinnati Pops Associate Conductor and New York Pops Music Director Steven Reineke, Boston Pops Conductor Keith Lockhart, and Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra Assistant Conductor Vince Lee. Additional conductors will be CSO Music Director Paavo Järvi and May Festival Director of Choruses Robert Porco.
Also performing will be mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade, the May Festival Chorus and students from the School for the Creative and Performing Arts.
Students from SCPA will also perform in the lobby before the concert, the release said.
