Sweet Lillie's Cookies

Bill Myers of Dayton bakes cookies in memory of the grandmother who raised him. The recipe is one of his grandmother's, and one taster agreed that the chunky cookies are 'great for kids.'

Now Myers bakes cookies with his 4-year-old grandson Tyler, who stands on a chair and helps mix the cookies and wash the dishes. And Myers makes cookies about three times a month, taking them to the Reibold building where he works.

1/2 cup sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup butter-flavored shortening
1 teaspoon vanilla
1 egg
1 1/2 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
Chocolate chunks, nuts, red and green M&Ms

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine both sugars, butter, shortening, vanilla and egg. Combine dry ingredients and mix well with the butter-sugar mixture. Stir in chocolate chunks, nuts or M&Ms (as much as desired). Using a No. 40 scoop or heaping tablespoon, drop the dough on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 8 to 10 minutes
