Lebanon’s Jr. ACME summer baseball team opened district tournament play with one of its first mistake-free games of the season.

Unfortunately for the Warriors, they couldn’t sustain the excellence.

After a 6-2 win over Dayton Carroll on Saturday, June 27, the Warriors were bounced into the loser’s bracket of the districts Tuesday night by Butler.

The 10-2 loss put Lebanon in a rematch with Carroll on Wednesday night. The winner plays Butler in the district finals tonight, July 2.

“We’re going to have to play as well as we did on Saturday against Carroll to get another opportunity against Butler,” Lebanon coach Lee Day said.

The Warriors played error-free baseball for only the second game this summer in the win over Carroll.

Ande Holland pitched a complete game, giving up two earned runs on five hits and striking out 10 to get the victory. He also hit a three-run home run — scoring Joe Najdovski and Landen Brown — to lead Lebanon at the plate.

“We finally played well in all phases of the game,” Day said. “Ande pitched well. He did walk five batters but he was able to strike out 10, and you can make up for a lot with that many strikeouts.”

On Tuesday, the Warriors committed three errors in the 10-2 loss to Butler. Both of Lebanon’s runs came in the team’s final at-bat.

Scott Ross suffered the defeat after pitching five innings and allowing five runs. Josh Young and Allen O’Connell each threw an inning of relief.

Austin Howard and Kris France were the team’s hitting leaders in the loss, collecting two hits each.

Lebanon’s record slipped to 5-11 overall.
