Lebanon will see an old rivalry resurface when the 2010-11 school year starts in August.
The Greater Western Ohio Conference announced last week that it will expand to 18 teams in all sports, except football, beginning in 2010-11. West Carrollton and Greenville will join the conference, with West Carrollton competing in the South Division and Greenville in the North.
West Carrollton was a member of the Mid-Miami League in the 1980s, as was Lebanon.
“From our perspective, we’re excited about having West Carrollton and Greenville in the conference,” said Lebanon High Athletic Director Joe Roberts. “Now that there will be three divisions with six teams each, we can have a true rotation of interdivisional play and get a true representation of the conference.”
Starting next fall, West Carrollton and Greenville will compete in all sports that are determined by tournament play — tennis, golf, cross country, swimming, wrestling and track.
It is also likely that soccer, volleyball, basketball, baseball and softball will include the two schools in conference play.
“We are in the process of making the necessary changes to accommodate the transition,” said GWOC Commissioner Eric Spahr. “The conference administrators are excited to be able to provide the student-athletes of Greenville and West Carrollton the experiences and opportunities that come with GWOC membership.”
Due to schedules that are already set, Greenville and West Carrollton will not be able to compete in the GWOC for football until 2012.
