Lebanon’s week seven game at Troy had trap game written all over it.
Unfortunately for the Warriors, they couldn’t escape the trap.
Lebanon followed an emotional win at Springboro with a lackluster performance in the rain at Troy, losing a 14-7 contest in the mud on Friday, Oct. 9.
With the loss, the Warriors fell to 5-2 overall while Troy improved to 4-3.
The Trojans attacked the Warriors on the ground on a muddy field, rushing for 300 yards and limiting Lebanon’s offensive possessions.
Two second half touchdown runs by Chris Basil were the difference in the game.
“Championship teams find ways to win no matter what the circumstances, so we have no excuses,” Lebanon coach Shawn Lamb said. “That being said, the conditions definitely worked in their favor. It was difficult for us to get the ball out to our players in space and when we did get outside the tackles it was difficult to make cuts that our athletes have made all year.
“Troy is a very big, physical team. Their running back was as big as any of our defensive linemen. They did what they needed to do. They ran the ball straight ahead, kept our offense off the field and when we did have the ball they stopped our running game. They deserved to win.”
Lebanon scored in the opening minute while the field was still in decent shape. Trey Bonny busted loose on a 70-yard touchdown run to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead. Bonny finished the game with 149 yards rushing on 19 carries.
The key moment of the game, however, came on Lebanon’s next drive.
The Warriors moved the ball inside the Troy 10-yard line when quarterback Dusty Isaacs fumbled an exchange and Troy recovered.
“That was a momentum killer,” Lamb said. “You could feel the confidence Troy gained at that point while we just self-imploded.
“We felt if we could get up 14 points it would change their offensive scheme which is what we wanted to do. That turnover shifted the momentum and probably changed the way the rest of the game was played.”
Lebanon’s potent passing attack was grounded as Isaacs completed a season-worst 5-of-18 passes for 63 yards. Chase Cochran, the leading receiver in the Greater Western Ohio Conference, caught just one pass for 10 yards.
