MIDDLETOWN — With two weeks remaining in the regular season, Shuck’s Projections publisher Steve Shuck still has five teams making the prep football playoffs.
Lebanon (6-2), Monroe (7-1), Franklin (5-3), Valley View (6-2) and Carlisle (6-2) are all projected to advance in their divisions. Here’s the breakdown:
Division I, Region 4
Shuck has Lebanon finishing seventh in the region with closing wins over Xenia (2-6) and Miamisburg (1-7). That would send the Warriors to Moeller in the first round.
Middletown (8-0) is projected to lose to Colerain on Friday, Oct. 23, and place ninth at 9-1 (that assumes a win over Princeton in Week 10), a fraction behind the Cardinals in Harbin computer points. So the Middies could lose that game and still finish ahead of Colerain if they catch a break among defeated opponents.
A key contest could be Hamilton vs. Fairfield in Week 10. The Cardinals defeated Big Blue and Middletown beat the Indians, and Shuck’s numbers reflect an HHS victory.
Springboro (7-1) can jump into serious contention with a win over Trotwood-Madison on Friday.
Division II, Region 8
Edgewood (3-5) was hurt when Mount Healthy and Dayton Carroll won last weekend. The Cougars are now projected to win out and place 11th.
Division III, Region 12
Surging Monroe is Shuck’s pick to win this region at 9-1, hosting Southwestern Buckeye League rival Franklin in Round 1. The Hornets still must play Waynesville and Dayton Northridge, but they have all but locked up a berth.
Shuck has Franklin eighth, but that scenario includes wins over Brookville and Dayton Oakwood.
Division IV, Region 16
Valley View is projected to place third and Carlisle sixth in the region, meaning they would meet on the Spartans’ turf in the first round.
Shuck has both teams winning out. Valley View plays Eaton (6-2) and Brookville (5-3), while the Indians face Preble Shawnee (3-5) and Dixie (4-4).
Fenwick (5-3) is projected to finish .500 with defeats at the hands of McNicholas and Carroll. If the Falcons can win both games, Shuck said they’ll have a legitimate shot to qualify for the postseason.
