WAYNESVILLE — Winless Oakwood put up a fight, but the Waynesville Spartans pulled away in the second half to improve to a perfect 7-0 on the season with a 42-21 win over the visiting Lumberjacks on Friday night.
Luke Creditt scored on runs of 10 and 91 yards in the third quarter as the Spartans, who led only 21-14 at the half, broke open the game. Creditt, who rushed for 208 yards on eight carries, also scored on a 17-yard run in the first quarter and threw for 86 yards on 9-of-17 passing.
Matt Hussey scored a pair of touchdowns — on runs of 22 and 14 yards — and Matt Lindsey added a 60-yard touchdown run for the Spartans. Lindsey finished with 94 yards rushing while Hussey ran for 74. Hussey also caught five passes for 54 yards.
Oakwood’s Max Banke threw three touchdown passes — two in the first half — and finished the game completing 15-of-32 passes for 255 yards to lead the Lumberjacks, who were held to five total rushing yards in the game.
Waynesville’s defense intercepted two passes (one each by Mike Tarkany and Michael Hooser) and sacked Banke four times (Hooser, Austin Parish, Jacob Audia and Hunter Schmidt).
