Here are details on the Player of the Year candidates chosen by our sports staff:

  • Alyssa Ritchie, junior, Waynesville, girls tennis: Division II undefeated state champion.
  • Lauren Price, senior, Waynesville, girls soccer: All-Ohio Division II, Miami Valley Southwest District Player of the Year, led Dayton area with 26 assists and third in area with 26 goals.
  • Seth Millar, senior, Waynesville, football: rushed for 1,737 yards and 25 TDs this season and broke the all-time career rushing record with over 5,000 yards.
  • Dusty Isaacs, senior, Lebanon, football: named the GWOC South Offensive Player of the Year and passed for a school record 2,019 yards and 23 TDs while throwing only two interceptions; he set single game records for TDs and passing yards, season passing yards and TDs and career passing yards.
  • Chase Cochran, senior, Lebanon, football: caught 39 passes for 1,070 yards and 16 TDs, setting school records for single game receptions, yards and TDs, season records for receiving yards and TDs and career records for receptions, yards and TDs.

Wondering- these things are a joke at best. Don't feel bad about your player being left off the list. Anytime you allow people to vote more than once, the voting loses all meaning.

The athletes are chosen by the Western Star sports staff per the article.

It was a rhetorical question, since he is not on the ballot it does not matter. Point being since there is such a large amount of time that the voting is open, why not have a few days of voting for who should be considered. Who picks the athletes in the first place? If you follow GWOC sports, especially those heavily covered by the Star, it is not hard to figure out who the post spoke about.
