BASKETBALL OFFICIATING CLASSES HAVE STARTED: Basketball officiating classes will be held every Sunday at 6 p.m. for six more weeks at Hampton Bennett School in Franklin. The dates are Oct. 19 and 26, and Nov. 2, 9, 16 and 23. Anyone interested, male and female, must be at least 14 years old and a freshman in high school to be eligible to become a licensed referee. Registration fee is $130 which includes rule books, examination fee and other items associated with the teaching program. Equipment and uniform prices will be available. Harry Hall is the instructor. GREEN & WHITE NIGHT AT BADIN: Badin High School has a Green & White Night coming up Saturday, Oct. 17 for the football game against Fenwick at Virgil Schwarm Stadium. Elementary school students will be admitted free if they are dressed in Badin spirit wear.

LADY MIDDIES BASKETBALL HOLDING TRYOUTS: The Lady Middies basketball program will conduct tryouts for third- through sixth-grade girls planning on playing in the Dayton Metro League. Tryouts will be on Monday, Oct. 19, through Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Middletown High School in the Paul Walker Gymnasium. The third- and fourth-graders will tryout from 6 to 7:15 p.m., and the fifth- and sixth-graders will be from 7:15 to 8:30 p.m. Parents or Guardians must attend their first tryout date to fill out necessary information. MIDDLETOWN ELEMENTARY GIRLS BASKETBALL LEAGUE: Any Middletown Elementary school girl in grades K-2 interested in playing basketball for their elementary school this winter, sign-ups will be conducted on Monday, Oct. 19, through Wednesday, Oct. 21, at Middletown High School by the Paul Walker Gymnasium from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Medical forms, procedures/rules, and practice/game schedules will be distributed at sign-ups.

OLYMPIC MEDALIST CRYSTL BUSTOS HOSTING HITTING CLINIC OCT. 23-24: Three-time Olympic Medalist Crystl Bustos returns for the fifth Annual Bustos/Carrier clinic to be held Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24 at Kings High School. There will be a hitting clinic and a coach’s clinic. Anyone can attend both. The coach’s clinic will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. Bustos will be the facilitator. The cost of this clinic is $60. You can receive a $20 refund if you volunteer for the players hitting clinic, which will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 24 at McAuley High School. NEW MIAMI HOLDING FISH FRY: New Miami High School’s athletic department will sponsor a fish fry from 4:30-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23, in the high school cafeteria prior to the varsity football game against Cincinnati Country Day. Price for the complete dinner is $5 for adults and $3 for children under 10.

NEW MIAMI HALL SEEKING NOMINATIONS: New Miami High School is seeking nominations for this year’s Hall of Fame class. Nomination forms are available from the main office and must be returned to athletic director Kevin Dunnette before November 20. Contact Kevin Dunnette at (513) 896-3954, ext. 2170, for more information.

MERCY HEALTHPLEX OFFERS BASKETBALL CLINICS: A new monthly program for both members and non-members of Mercy Healthplex Fairfield will be basketball clinics, starting Saturday, Oct. 24, from 10 a.m. to noon, for ages 7-12. Skills to be taught are ball handling and shooting. The cost is $15 for member children and $21 for non-member children. For more information, call Stephanie Anderson at (513) 682-1219.

BADIN INDUCTING 2009 HALL CLASS: The 2009 Badin-Hamilton Catholic-Notre Dame Hall of Fame class will be inducted Saturday, Oct. 24, at the Pfirman Family Activity Center. Mass will be at 5:15 p.m., followed by refreshments at 6 p.m., dinner at 7 p.m. and the program at 8 p.m. The inductees are the late Rusty Wilke, Roger Wilke, Jim Urso, Tim Nichting, Eddie Larkin, Joe Giuliano and Shannon Kuhl Nieman. The Legacy Family of Jack and Dianne Brinck will also be honored. Reservations are $30 and can be made by contacting the Badin development office at (513) 863-3993.

FAIRFIELD HOSTING YOUTH WRESTLING CLUB: Sign-ups for the Fairfield Youth Wrestling Club will be held Monday, Oct. 26, and Tuesday, Oct. 27, at the Fairfield Middle School wrestling room, which is the red building at the rear of the school. The object of the club is to introduce children and their parents to the sport of wrestling. It’s open to students in the 6th grade or younger. MONROE HOSTING ‘IT’S ALL ABOUT CHARACTER’ NIGHT OCT. 27: The Monroe Athletic Department will be presenting “It’s All About Character” night at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 27 in the high school gymnasium. Kim Nuxhall, founder of Joe Nuxhall Character Foundation and son of the ‘ole left-hander, former Bengal Jim Breech and Dr. Mike Thomson will present a fun-filled evening stressing character, ethics, integrity and other valuable attributes of character building. Those in attendance will learn how great coaches (teachers) motivate their teams, the difference between winning and success, how committing Good Character will guarantee success in life and strategies for implementing Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity into your coaching, teaching, parenting among other things.
