Miami falls in MAC baseball tourney

CHILLICOTHE — Greg Rohan hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning to propel fourth-seeded Kent State over fifth-seeded Miami University 5-4 in the first round of the Mid-American Conference baseball tournament Wednesday, May 20.

Miami (28-24) will play at a time to be determined today, May 21 against Bowling Green/Central Michigan in the second round of the double-elimination tourney.

Wednesday’s final first-round game between Bowling Green and Central Michigan was suspended due to a power outage in the fourth inning and will resume today at 9 a.m. Today’s other starting times have not been set.

The RedHawks had taken a 4-0 lead with the help of three straight home runs in the fifth inning by Jordan Petraitis, Chris Nadeau and Tommy Nurre.

KSU (39-15) hit a pair of homers off Miami ace Matt Erwood and Rohan’s blast, also off Erwood, gave the Golden Flashes a 5-3 lead.

Mickelson’s wife
has breast cancer

Phil Mickelson was gearing up for his favorite time of year, working his way toward Bethpage Black and another crack at the U.S. Open before a New York gallery that treats him like a rock star.

All that changed Wednesday, May 20, along with his priorities, when he disclosed that his wife, Amy, has been diagnosed with breast cancer.

Mickelson is taking an indefinite leave from the PGA Tour. He withdrew from the Byron Nelson Championship, which he won in 1996. He is to defend his title next week at Colonial, but even that is uncertain. A statement from his management company said his 37-year-old wife would have more tests, though treatment would begin with “major surgery” as early as the next two weeks.
