Formed in 1803, the year Ohio became a state, the township named itself for the large numbers of deer that stopped at local "deer licks," or salt licks. In those days and earlier, "Deerfield Township was clad in its native wilderness," wrote editors of the 19th-century History of Warren County. "Not an open space could be found which would let the mellowing light of the sun pass to the then undisturbed soil."

King's Island hosted a party for people who opposed a proposed admissions tax and parking facility tax to patrons of the amusement park and other entertainment venues in the city of Mason on Monday, Feb. 8. Following a sometimes heated discussion, the Mason City Council voted down both proposals during its Monday night meeting.
