Sister act The Roches perform for artist series event
Friday, March 30, 2007
The thing about family acts is that it sounds so natural. The harmonies seem to flow from their genes, the sound waves in perfect synchronicity.
That natural flow is all an illusion, according to Suzzy Roche, the youngest of the sister act the Roches.

"It is an extremely painstaking process," she said. "You have to have complete chords and we try every possible combination of notes, so it is extremely time consuming."
The Roches are back on the road with a new album, "Moonswept," the first collection of new music by all three sisters since 1995's "Can We Go Home Now."
"We all just got involved in different projects that took us away from the group," Suzzy said. "When we do the group, it's pretty much a full-time job.
Making the record "was pretty organic," she said. "There was no inspired moment, but we just started doing it. We went to the fans and started doing some shows and playing out again, reconnecting with the people who had always listened to us. They gave us a lot of energy, and we turned that into writing more songs."
For the record, she said they decided to make it as much of just themselves as possible.
"The vocals and the instruments are all worked out like a little puzzle, carefully don't so we don't have too much instruments on top of our vocal arrangements," she said.
The songs of the album tend to be about growing up, she said.
"I think it's about transition between childhood and maturity, if I had to give it a theme," she said.
