The Lebanon school bus drivers are raising money to supplement tuition for students who can't afford to pay for summer school, said transportation supervisor Craig Hurtt.

Driver Susan Alexander developed the idea to hold a golf outing as the first of what drivers hope will be many fundraisers to help the district. They also have developed a slogan of "Drivers who drive to make a difference."

"This is a way for us (the bus drivers) to give back," Alexander said. "We really do care about our kids."

Check-in for the golf scramble begins at 8 a.m., Sunday, May 4 at Armco Park. Cost is $160 per team ($40 per person) and the deadline to register is Friday, April 25. Lunch will also be served at noon for $20 per family and is open to anyone. All the money will be donated to the tuition fund.

Alexander said the drivers have also discussed starting a scholarship fund specifically for students on individualized education plans and 504 plans.
