Mason High School is the only Warren County school vying to win Cincinnati's "Clash of the Choirs."

The Comet Choir plan to submit their version of "Elijah Rock"— a classic recorded in 1962 by "Queen of Gospel Music" Mahalia Jackson. Fans of the Comet Choir can show their support by voting for the group's entry online at www.wlwt.com/entertainment/15970306/detail.html to vote.

The Mason High School Choir has been under the direction of Elaine Santos for nine years. She said it's hard work keeping students connected to music and languages through the study of how music works with text.

"The most challenging part of working with these talented students is finding a way to keep them challenged," Santos said.

Along with Mason High School, Anderson High School, Cincinnati Children's Choir, Conner High School, Fairfield High School, Oak Hills High School, Mt. Healthy High School and Turpin High School are participating in the local competition.

Mason Public Information Officer Tracey Carson said for more information to watch News 5 at 5 on Thursday, May 1.
