South Suburban Coalition to hold meeting

Eight communities are working to keep teens from drinking and/or taking drugs.

Teenage drinking and drug use is an issue that is not unique to any one community, but impacts the lives of youth and families of our region on a daily basis and costs our young people dearly in terms of lost potential, lost opportunities, lost resources and sometimes even lost lives.

The South Suburban Coalition, eight communities working to address and help prevent underage use of and access to alcohol and other drugs among the south Dayton communities, will hold another meeting from

11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. May 8 at Benham's Grove, 166 N. Main St., Centerville.

As a follow up to the Town Hall meeting April 17,

the Coalition is seeking residents who would like to work on specific projects to address three key areas:

• education and prevention

• use and accessibility/accountability and enforcement

• community involvement and expectations/healthy alternatives for youth.

The South Suburban Coalition includes members from Centerville, Kettering, Miamisburg, Miami Twp, Moraine, Oakwood, Washington Twp. and West Carrollton. Each community has youth and adult representatives from law enforcement, city/township and schools including Alter High School.
