CLEARCREEK TWP., Warren County — Two cyclists were taken to Miami Valley Hospital on Sunday, May 4, after crashing during a bike race in Clearcreek Township, officials said.

An unidentified woman was flown by helicopter to Miami Valley Hospital after crashing about 12:30 p.m. Sunday on Lower Springboro Road, Capt. Jeff Prass of the Clearcreek Twp. Fire Department.

Five minutes later, an unidentified male rider was driven by ambulance to Miami Valley Hospital after colliding with another rider, falling from his bike and hitting his head on a passing vehicle on Red Lion-Five points Road, near the Springboro Road intersection, Prass said.

The riders' conditions weren't available on Monday.

The crashes prompted race officials to cancel the first Bull Run Farms Road Race, finale of the Ohio Valley Spring Racing Series.

The race, including more than 200 cyclists, began at Bull Run Farm on Springboro Road.

"They were just freak accidents," said Jim Dennedy, an organizer and manager of the Ghisallo Cycling Team. "We black flagged the race and canceled it."

However Dennedy said race officials hope to reschedule the race, which pitted riders in six categories.
