Lakota student accused of sexual imposition

Charges that a Lakota East student groped an aide were dropped Tuesday, April 6, after the court declared the boy incompetent to stand trial and dismissed the case, according to court records.

The woman who filed the sexual imposition charges said she did not want to see the boy put in juvenile detention, but she wanted him to realize there are consequences for actions. She said the boy touched her breast and had been bullying other multiple handicap students who could not speak up for themselves.

Butler County TID Board Meeting scheduled Monday

There will be a regularly scheduled Butler County TID Board meeting at 8:30 a.m.

Relay for Life events planned for this weekend

Relay for Life of West Chester Twp. is scheduled to conduct its sixth annual fundraising walk from 3 p.m. Saturday, May 10, to 9 a.m. Sunday, May 11, at Lakota West High School.

The 26 teams that participated in last year's walk raised more than $77,000 for cancer research. This year's event will include survivor events, health promotions, games, live bands, a DJ and a luminary ceremony.

A Relay For Life "Extravaganza" is planned from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. May 10 at the West Chester Wesleyan Church, 7019 Tylersville Road. The fundraiser will support the team "Stayin' Alive!" There will be a rummage sale, bake sale, car wash, food booth, games and a corn hole tournament.

MetroParks to announce priorities for VOA Park plan

MetroParks of Butler County will hold its monthly board meeting 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 13, at the at Voice of America Park in the Ronald Reagan Lodge Lakeview Room.

Beginning at 1:30 p.m, a progress report regarding the VOA Park planning process to date will be presented by McGill Smith Punshon, Inc. The report will include a list of future facilities identified by the project committee as priorities. Interested parties are invited to attend and time will be allowed for public input during the meeting. For more information, go to butlercountymetroparks.

Jeffrey's 5K Family Fun Walk planned for Saturday

The Jeffrey Thomas Hayden Foundation's annual 5K Family Fun Walk is scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 10, at Voice of America Park in West Chester Twp. The foundation raises funds for pediatric brain tumor research. The registration fee for the walk is $25 per person from today until the day of the event. Baby joggers and strollers are welcome. West Chester/Liberty rotary

event raises $6,500

The Rotary Club of West Chester/Liberty announced that its first International Wine Tasting Gala and Auction raised more $6,500. Funds raised at the event, which took place Saturday, April 12, at The Savannah at Chappell Crossing, will be used to support the club's charitable and friendship-promoting activities.

Urban Active opens doors to public for one week

Urban Active fitness center at 9282 Allen Road is joining with the International Health, Racquet and Sportclub Association to promote its Get Active America! campaign May 12-18. Second phase of canal trail dedicated

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources and its local partners in Butler County dedicated phase two of the Port Union-Gilmore Ponds Historic Canal Trail Wednesday, April 30, as part of an ongoing celebration of the Clean Ohio Fund and its support of recreational trail construction statewide. 

An award of $500,000 from the Clean Ohio Trails Fund helped build this portion of the trail, which is part of the Miami 2 Miami trail network. The network aims at connecting the Great Miami River Recreation Trail in Butler County and the Little Miami Scenic Trail in Warren County. The City of Fairfield, the Butler County Commissioners, Butler County Engineer's Office and MetroParks of Butler County collaborated on the project. 

Safe driving course offered at Lakota West High School

An accident avoidance and defensive driving course will be offered May 16-18 at Lakota West High School. The class, open to students accompanied by a parent, will consist of a two-day classroom and field driving experience. For more information, call (800) 862-3277 or visit carcontrol.com.

Community Cancer Education Day planned for May 10

The UC Barrett Cancer Center at University Hospital plans to host the 4th Annual Community Cancer Education Day on Saturday, May 10, at University Pointe Medical Campus at 7700 University Court. The event will feature information booths and video presentations on cancer causes, screening, risk factors and treatments.
