Of the hundreds of employees of the Fairfield City School District, there are many who shine, said Superintendent Cathy Milligan.

"All of our staff work very hard, but there are individuals who go above and beyond and distinguish themselves," she said.

On Thursday, May 15, administrators presented 29 awards at the school board meeting to recognize outstanding contributions to the school district. Several support staff members were honored for the way they reach out to students during the work day.

Janet Wren, an educational assistant, was praised for her true title, "everything and anything." Spanish translator Martha Molina's nominator said she can "smile in two languages."

One teacher, Sue Drew, began teaching at age 19 and has since taught every grade except second. Custodian Danny Price has been to soccer games and dance recitals and sixth-grade teacher Tim Adams has started an after-school tutoring program.

High School receptionist Kim Savage takes up to 100 phone calls a day, bakes cakes for birthdays and has the ability to know where every one of the 2,000 plus students is at a given moment of the day, Principal Paul Waller wrote in his nomination.

"It's always exciting to hear about all of these good folks," said Board President Mark Morris. "It's a nice reminder of what we have here."
