Afternoon fire destroys upstairs of home
Tuesday, November 18, 2008
A mattress fire destroyed the second story of a Lebanon duplex today, Nov. 18.
Lebanon firefighters were called to the 900 block of Ridgeway Court, a cul-de-sac off Monroe Road, shortly after 2 p.m. with reports of a house fire.
Lebanon fire chief Mike Hannigan said that the fire had been started by children playing with a candle on a bed. Hannigan said three people were home when the fire broke out and had attempted to fight the blaze, but the fire grew out of control. No one was hurt in the house and the fire was contained to the top floor of one-half of the duplex. Hannigan estimated approximately $50,000 in building, property and content damages.
Fire companies from Turtlecreek Twp. and Union Twp. assisted with the scene.
