SPRINGBORO — Nearly 200 people attended the recent 36th annual Air Force JROTC Awards Ceremony held in the high school commons.

Among the guests were retired military dignitaries, family members, guests of the cadets, school board members, faculty and staff of the Springboro Community Schools.

The evening was kicked off by the Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corp. Saber Team and Color Guard and by several sophomore cadets who performed a tribute to active military, prisoners of war and soldiers missing in action.

Then cadets were presented their awards certificates, ribbons and medals to recognize outstanding performances in academics, service to their school and community, physical fitness, leadership and patriotism.

Lt. Col. Runchey and Chief Pawlowski, Springboro JROTC instructors, also presented many local ribbons and awards at the ceremony.

The following are national and local JROTC Award recipients:

• Tuskegee Airmen Air Force JROTC Cadet Award: Emily Kleine and Chad Lewis

• Retired Enlisted Association Award: Patrick Doran

• Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War: Clark Thie

• Air Force Sergeant's Association Award: Kendall Emmott
