Kings gets Senior Day win

The Kings baseball team battled the elements and Walnut Hills, but managed a 7-2 win on Senior Day.
"It was ugly for awhile, but we came through in the sixth when we got some guys on and got them over and in. Senior Day is to recognize the seniors and get them recognized for being in the program and then to cap it off with a win is always great," Kings coach Kevin McClung said.

Knights' pitcher Josh Wittes pitched seven innings and allowed just three hits. He had two walks and struck out seven to pick up the victory.
"He's a solid pitcher. When he's getting ahead in the count and throwing good off speed stuff he's pretty effective," McClung said.
The Eagles Sean Ashon gave up seven runs; six earned and allowed 10 hits. He had five walks and four strikeouts in 5 2/3 innings of work. Ben Robinson came in to record the last out in the sixth for the Eagles.
The Knights, now 7-2 in the Fort Ancient Valley Conference, honored their seniors, but it was a sophomore who provided the big play of the game. Will Vieth came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth with runners on first and third and one out. He squared for the suicide squeeze with Robby Keever barreling down the third base line. Vieth laid down the bunt and not only plated Keever, but also Zach Murphy on a throwing error allowing Vieth to move to second. The Kings rally plated six runs in the inning.
Vieth who had missed on a suicide squeeze earlier in the game and was happy for a second chance.
"I just made sure to get the bat on the ball and I knew I was not going to miss the ball. I knew there was no way I could face going back to the dugout missing another squeeze and leaving one of my teammates out to dry," Vieth said.
The Knights started the season dropping eight of their first eleven. They have turned it around and find their season's record at 10-13.
"We've been playing fairly well here lately. Saturday we lost a tough one to Lebanon, but we've been playing well. That's kind of the way baseball is; it's a game you have to play with confidence and right now we have some confidence going and we'll see what happens," McClung said.
