Steve Laake (6-1) earned the win and Zach Orlins went 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI for Centerville (18-5) as the Elks knocked off West Carrollton 9-2 in Division I sectional baseball Thursday, May 15.

Centerville advances to play Northmont today at 5 p.m. at Fairmont.

Tri-Village 4, Newton 1: Kendall Stutz (5-4) earned the win for Tri-Village (15-8), which moves on to play Southeastern at Newton on Saturday in Division IV sectional play.

Covington 7, Riverside 4: Daryl Thobe (7-1) earned the win for Covington (17-5). Andy Sparks contributed two RBIs and Brent Shively added three. Covington plays Lehman at Tipp City on Saturday at 1 p.m. in D-IV sectional play.

Botkins 9, Houston 0: Ryan Leugers improved to 10-0. He added a double and three RBIs in the win. Caleb Koch knocked in four runs, and Travis Dietz had two RBIs. Botkins (17-5) advances to play Fort Loramie on Saturday at 3 p.m. at Tipp City in D-IV sectional play. Houston ends the season 12-11.

Softball

Sidney 7,Miamisburg 6: Sidney scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth to beat Miamisburg in Division I sectional play. Hillary Fishbaugh tied it when she scored on a wild pitch, and Brandi Eustache singled home the game-winner. Kristen Roby (18-5) earned the win. Sidney advances to play Edgewood.

Milton Union 4, Brookville 0: In D-II sectional play at Brookville, Jade Clark threw a three-hitter with nine strikeouts. Milton Union plays Northeastern next at Northmont.

Northmont 7, Springboro 0: Bre Fisher (18-2) tossed a complete-game shutout. Fallon White hit a homer and two RBIs for the Thunderbolts. Northmont (24-3) will face Piqua at Bellbrook in Division I sectional play. Springboro finished 8-20.

Centerville 5, Beavercreek 0: Sammi King (6-6) struck out four for Centerville. Julia Whiting was 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs, and Caroline Millard hit a two-run homer. Centerville

(10-17) plays Greenville at 3 p.m. today in a D-I sectional. Beavercreek ends the season 14-9.

Valley View 3, Clinton Massie 0: Emily Fultz (12-3) struck out 12 in a complete-game shutout. Valley View improves to 15-7 and will play West Carrollton at Miamisburg on Saturday at 1 p.m. in a D-II sectional game.

Ansonia 10, Mechanicsburg: Brittany Mayo (13-2) struck out 12, and Kasey Knick had three RBIs. Ansonia (22-3) advances to play Houston on Saturday at 4 p.m. for the Division IV sectional championship.

Sectional tennis

Saturday's singles semifinals are set in D-II play at Troy Community Park. In the upper bracket, it'll be Philip Dresden (Tippecanoe) vs. teammate Josh Smedley. In the lower bracket, it's Rob Ball (Bellefontaine) vs. Rob Harrelson (Lehman Catholic). Top seeded Dresden dropped just one set in three matches.

The Yellow Springs doubles team of Olivia Chen and Alex Turner advanced to the semifinals vs. Urbana's Ben Alderfer and Perry Thompson. Lehman Catholic's Andrew McDonagh and Aaron Stevenson will play Adam Bennett and Ross Smith of Kenton Ridge.

All advance to next week's district.
