Man who had 313 pounds of marijuana sentenced to 8 years

Friday, July 11, 2008

Staff Report

A Massachusetts man recently found guilty of transporting 313 pounds of marijuana was sentenced today, July 11 to eight years in prison, fined $7,500 and had his driver's license suspended for five years.

Anthony Graham, 37, was sentenced by Warren County Court of Common Pleas Judge James Heath for two second-degree felonies — one count of possession of marijuana and one count of trafficking in marijuana, according to Warren County Prosecutor Rachel Hutzel.

On July 1, a Warren County jury returned two guilty verdicts against Graham following a two-day jury trial before Judge Heath.

Deputy Brian Lewis of the Warren County Sheriff's Office found the six bales of marijuana after making a traffic stop on the rented van Graham was driving. After noting suspicious activity, Lewis' narcotics dog, Kilo, indicated there were drugs in the van. Graham's passenger, also charged, has fled and a warrant has been issued for his arrest, Hutzel said.
