HAMILTON — Butler County Common Pleas Judge Keith Spaeth will hand down a verdict today, Thursday, Oct. 29, in the case of Hamilton pediatrician Dr. Mark Blankenburg, court officials have announced.

The verdict on 25 charges — including drug trafficking, corrupting another with drugs and engaging in a pattern of corrupt activity — will be announced at 2 p.m., according to court officials.

Blankenburg, 53, was found guilty Oct. 16 by a jury of 16 sex-related felony charges for molesting minor male patients and paying them with cash and drugs to keep quiet. That verdict came after a two-week trial.

The doctor waived his right to a jury trial on 25 other charges and left that decision to Spaeth.

Blankenburg’s twin brother and fellow pediatrician, R. Scott Blankenburg, is scheduled to stand trial in April on similar charges.

Mark Blankenburg is housed in the Butler County Jail after Spaeth revoked his bond following the jury’s verdict.

Another trial date is expected to be set soon to consider 12 additional charges involving child pornography that were severed from the original indictment.
