CENTERVILLE — A Waynesville man has pleaded not guilty to a misdemeanor theft charge in connection with the Sept. 3 theft of the Special Wish Foundation donation box from Bill’s Donut Shop.
Michael Truesdale, 24, of Waynesville was arrested by Centerville police arrested about noon Tuesday, Sept. 15.
He was arraigned Wednesday in Kettering Municipal Court and remained in Montgomery County Jail on $1,000 bond at press time.
Surveillance video showed two people pull up behind the shop at 268 N. Main St. in a Chevy Blazer at 2:40 p.m. Sept. 3, when the store was mostly empty.
A man approached the counter and told an employee he needed time to decide before ordering. When the employee walked to the other side of the store, the man grabbed the donation box and walked out the side door.
The other individual had moved the car and was waiting for him there.
Officer Matt Dunn said police identified the suspect through a combination of investigation and tips from the public who saw the surveillance video.
Police said the driver of the vehicle has not been arrested.
Anyone with information about the case is encouraged to call Centerville Police at (937) 433-7661.
Managers at Bill’s say the shop has had a Special Wish Foundation donation box for years, making frequent contributions to the charity, which grants the wishes of children diagnosed with life- threatening disorders.
A new box has replaced the stolen one.
