We got both our purebred labs from Animal Friends Humane Society. There is no reason whatsoever for any person to buy a puppy or kitten from a pet store like Petland, who by peddling puppies from puppy mills, make millions off the suffering and misery of dogs that should be members of families, but are stuck in a cage their entire lives, only looked at as breeding machines, and then destroyed. Reputable breeders will also not sell their pups to places like Petland.

Regardless of your views on the Humane Society, the fact remains that Petland gets most of their puppies from puppymills and then sells substandard pups for ridiculous prices.

HSUS is big, rich, and powerful, a “humane society” in name only. And while most local animal shelters are under-funded and unsung, HSUS has accumulated $113 million in assets and built a recognizable brand by capitalizing on the confusion its very name provokes. This misdirection results in an irony of which most animal lovers are unaware: HSUS raises enough money to finance animal shelters in every single state, with money to spare, yet it doesn’t operate a single one anywhere.

When is the Dayton Daily News going to do fair and balanced reporting? Nowhere in your article do you explain that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) is not a government affiliated entity. Also, anyone that spends 5 minutes on their website can easily see that the HSUS would prefer that individuals only obtain their pets from shelters. I'm tired of any left wing organization that sneezes getting attention as if everything they say is truth. HSUS is group that needs investigated !
just curious too !!!
