Warren County’s oldest business and one of its top leaders will be honored by the Lebanon Chamber of Commerce during its annual dinner.
The chamber’s 58th annual dinner will take place May 28 at Shaker Run Golf Club, 4361 Greentree Road, Lebanon.
Sara Arseneau, executive director of the chamber, said this is the third year the chamber has partnered with the city of Lebanon, who also will present an award at the dinner.
“This is a chance to recognize outstanding business and community leaders,” Arseneau said.
Arseneau said the history of the awards reflect the changing makeup of the Lebanon area. When the awards were originally given out, one award was given to the farmer of the year due to the importance of farming to the area.
In 1962, Lester and Mary Oeder were honored for installing sewer and water lines along Columbus Avenue. A few years later, an award went to a man of more national prominence when Neil Armstrong received recognition for being the first man to walk on the moon. At the time, Armstrong lived in Turtlecreek Twp.
Award recipients are first nominated by chamber members. The winners are ultimately decided by a panel of board members and other local leaders.
This year’s award recipients include:
• Pat South, Citizen of the Year
•New Housing Opportunities, Community Service Award
• Blackstone Healthcare, Service Business of the Year
•Bill and Jane Duning, Professional Business of the Year
•The Golden Lamb, Retail Business of the Year
•Mari Lee Schwarzwalder and the Humane Association of Warren County, President’s Award.
