With the number of needy families on the rise, the fourth annual Warren County “Yes We Can Food Drive Challenge” is as important as ever, organizers say.
Organizers hope to collect 20 tons of food and $10,000 with the drive that runs through Dec. 31. The number of food collection barrels that will be placed at businesses and local governments across the county has doubled. This year, 90 barrels are in place compared to last year when residents filled and re-filled 55 barrels.
The county and the Lebanon High School boys basketball team and cheerleaders — who originated the drive — raised 16 tons of food and $17,000 last year.
The food will be delivered to the county’s food pantries in time for the holidays. More information, including shopping lists and updates on the success of the program, can be found at Commissioner Pat South’s Web site, www.patsouth.com, and will be on the county Web site soon.
“We truly do have the possibility of supplying everyone who needs it with food for at least six months if not longer,” South said.
