The Cincinnati Dinner Train rolls out of Mason to help raise money for the Mason Historical Society.
The train boards at 5:30 p.m. Oct. 21, leaves at 6 p.m. from the corner of Reading and Tylersville roads. Tickets for the five-course meal cost $85 per person or $150 per couple. The train returns from Lebanon at 9 p.m.
Ray Kammer, president of the Cincinnati Railway Company/LM&M Railroad, said he is providing the train and the crew at cost to make the fundraising event possible to say “thank you” to Mason officials and business owner Richard Cox.
Kammer said the city and Cox were “accommodating and helpful” on short notice earlier this year by allowing the railway to temporarily divert operations to Mason while infrastructure repairs were made in Lebanon.
Cox, who is the vice president of the historical society, said railway officials initially offered to express their gratitude by assisting his campaign for city council.
“I told them I would rather they do it as a community event,” Cox said. “It’s going to be china, white cloth, the whole ’40s, ’50s-style dining.”
Only 100 seats are available on the train. The menu for the one-night-only trip includes crudites with a sundried tomato basil spread, a tossed salad with raspberry vinaigrette, a choice of hickory smoked prime rib or boneless chicken breast sauteed in white wine sauce. Entrees are accompanied by a potato du jour, seasonal vegetables and choice of bottled water, iced tea or coffee. Dessert is a chocolate creme pie or a New York style cheesecake with strawberry topping. A cash bar will be available.
Surprise celebrity guests are scheduled to appear, Cox said.
Free parking is available at Al’s Heating and Cooling, 657 Reading Road.
