Some Lebanon students will take a “beating” with a big, red ball today, April 16, to help raise money for a rare disease.
Lebanon High School’s Future Business Leaders of America will hold its annual dodgeball tournament in the school’s auxiliary gym at 6 p.m. to raise donations for the A-T Children’s Project.
Last year, the FBLA raised more than $2,000 and helped raise awareness about ataxia-telangiectasia, a rare, genetic disorder that affects motor control and the immune system. The A-T Children’s Project is dedicated to researching the disease.
“This is the third year for the dodgeball tournament and it has seen great success,” said student Matt Allen. “It has now become one of the most popular events of the entire school year at Lebanon.”
FBLA adviser Frank Back said the students came up with the idea of a dodgeball tournament, and the turnout in the first two years exceeded their expectations. Because of spring sports and the rescheduling of the dodgeball tournament, Back said he doesn’t know if they will have the 24 teams they had last year, but the tournament is more about raising awareness.
Back said Lebanon group was recognized by the A-T Children’s Project last year for its contributions, as it was one of the top two schools in donations to the project.
Residents can attend the tournament and donate money to the organization.
