Mike Roe doesn’t want “good kids” to slip through the cracks.

After his father, Ray Roe, died in 2004, he began a scholarship program named in honor of his father, whom he called “a very good man” known for his integrity and honesty, and Kingdom Youth Ministries, a branch of Kingdom Sports Center in Franklin.

The criteria for the $200 scholarship is simple: must be a graduating senior who carries at least a 3.0 grade-point average, be active in athletics, be a leader or role model, and most importantly, be known for acts of goodness and kindness.

Roe, a 1977 Middletown High School graduate and member of its athletic sports hall of fame, said he hopes the scholarship rewards “good kids.”

“The best football player, the most recruited basketball player, they’re taken care of,” said Roe, owner of Kingdom Sports Center. “We want to reward the kid who exemplifies being good and kind.”

Roe said the recipients are selected by each high school.
