Lebanon Superintendent Mark North has been tabbed as the next leader of Beavercreek schools in Greene County.

Lebanon board president Donna Davis-Norris said the board was planning for the possibility that North could be hired by Beavercreek and they have been discussing the qualities they will look for in his replacement.

“Mark is an attractive candidate to Beavercreek,” she said.

Davis-Norris said the board will likely meet next week to begin their formal search, but they will take their time, even though North is scheduled to start work in Beavercreek Aug. 1.

“We’re going to hold out for the best superintendent we can find for Lebanon,” she said.

Davis-Norris said she is sad to see North leave, but she commended the job he did during his three years in the district.

“I think Mark can leave Lebanon knowing it is a better place then when he got here (in 2006),” she said.

Beavercreek board president Richard Eckhardt said moving to the larger district is a “natural progression” for North, who impressed the board and several panels of people who conducted interviews. Eckhardt said it was obvious that North “did his homework” because he was knowledgeable about Beavercreek’s recent bond issue and upcoming construction projects.

“His has a depth and breadth of experience that will serve Beavercreek well,” Eckhardt said.

Eckhardt said a special board meeting will be held Thursday, July 2, to approve North’s contract, which will pay him $139,000. North earned $132,420 in 2008.

Beavercreek’s current superintendent Dennis Morrison is retiring July 31.

North could not be reached for comment.

In June, North had been named one of three finalists for the same position with Oak Hills School District in Cincinnati, but they hired Todd Yohey of Ross Local Schools in Butler County.

seems like lebanon wasn't paying north enough and he had to go elsewhere. To me he didn't do enough for lebanon schools. overpayed and didn't do nothing but sit behind a desk. What did he do that warranted him to be paid over 132,000 a year.
maybe these schools systems should cut pay for the big wigs and they wouldn't have to ask the taxpayers for more money.
