LEBANON — Kristen Eggers is about to embark on the biggest diaper duty a mom has ever known. Her mission: to oversee dozens of cloth diaper changes at the same time.
Eggers is hosting a local cloth diaper change at noon Saturday at Marvin’s Organic Gardens, 2055 S. U.S. 42, Lebanon.
“We’re trying to promote using cloth diapers for the health of babies and the planet,” Eggers said.
The diaper-mania is part of a world-wide attempt to set a world record for simultaneous cloth diaper changes in honor of Earth Day, which is Friday.
According to the organizer’s website, www.great clothdiaperchange.com, more than 400 locations in 24 countries have been established to take part in this sudden diaper switch. Eggers said for her site to count, she needs to get at least 25 moms and dads on diaper duty to be present.
Eggers, who owns a cloth diaper business and hosts diaper parties in the area, wants to use the event to promote the usage of cloth diapers, which she said are friendlier to both the baby and the environment than disposable diapers.
“Using disposable diapers can create up to two tons of garbage per baby for the time it is in diapers,” Eggers said.
She said cloth diapers can save a family more than $2,000 as well, and can be reused for multiple children if need be.
Eggers has a 3-year-old daughter who has outgrown diapers and won’t be participating in the change-a-thon.
Participation in the event is free, but participants are encouraged to preregister by contacting Eggers at kristen@diaperparties. com.
