MASON — A new business in Mason is opening based on an idea for social media networking for businesses.

StoreFlix just opened in the old fire department administrative offices in the Mason Municipal Center. CEO Phil Storage and chief scientist Mark Clark had the idea years ago — before technology even existed to support it — and formed the company two years ago. They said they have been working on getting their worldwide patent.

The social media application gives businesses the ability to instantly see and analyze their business operations around the world.

“We have reinvented social media tools for corporations,” Storage said. “We have created a platform that allows all this information to be captured and organized in a very elegant, structured manner. It’s really a very magical product.”

Using smart phones, retailers can, for example, keep track of the products on their store shelves, monitor store promotions and communicate with their employees everywhere in real time through the StoreFlix platform.

Adam Janszen, sales director, said the application is not just for retailers; it could apply to a host different corporations.

“With our patent-pending technology, we turn any smart phone’s photo and video capability into a sophisticated data collection and management tool,” he said. “Corporations in a wide variety of industries see the value in using a social media tool that is built with business in mind. There are no limits to the industries that StoreFlix could touch.”

The company has seven employees today but by its fifth year, the owners plan to have almost 50 people working with them. That’s why they are renting space in the municipal center for now. As their company grows and their space needs change, they plan to remain in Mason, Storage said.

Eight years ago, Storage, who had been in the consumer package goods industry for two decades, dreamed of having such a device. He said he just had to wait for technology to catch up to his vision.

“We’re changing the world. ... It’s like saying ‘I want to go to the moon, but there is no rocket ship to take me there,’ ” he said. “We’re building that rocket ship.”
