Meeting to weigh Springboro schools health plan change rescheduled

SPRINGBORO — The school board has rescheduled its meeting to select a new health insurance plan for the district’s employees for Thursday, Feb. 11.

Due to the weather, the board postponed the meeting set for Tuesday night, Feb. 9, to decide on the health plan and consider other business.

The new plan could cost as much as $800,000 more, while shifting more costs or liability to employees, officials said.

Otherwise, the board projected the district’s health care costs to jump 25 percent to $5.5 million, including about $4.9 million paid by the district, in 2010.

The board is expected to weigh two plans, either of which could cost an average of $1,600 for each employee, Superintendent David Baker said.

One plan would charge higher premiums, the other would provide less funding by the district of health spending accounts used by employees to offset out-of-pocket costs.

The meeting is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. at Springboro High School.

No voter - it appears you don't understand how levies work. If a school levy is set to raise $20M, it does it every year. If all of the property values in the city go down the millage rate increases. The opposite is also true because no matter what - the levy is set at $20M. The only way for your portion to decrease - more development which spreads the cost over a larger base. Your fight is with the Warren County commissioners who did decide to increase the inside millage.

Years ago, when the state of Ohio sold us a bill of goods, making all of us think that all lottery money was going to the schools, it wasn't. At that time, I wrote my state representative asking him. He told me that the lottery money goes into the state general fund. Only the excess money is given to the schools. We were all lied to by the state years ago.

We are all tax poor. For example, you really don't own your home. Miss a few tax payments and it's gone.

Your home should be exempt from all taxes with the exception of a small local tax to pay for infrastructure improvements.

The state could put on a sales tax. It could only be increased by a vote statewide. This would be fair and would include those that do not own property or those who work under the table (not paying taxes).

All school money follows the student. Win - Win!

NO Voter,

I agree with you. One time, a police officer gave me a ticket because I was going 35 in a 25. Because of that, I think we should abolish all police services. What do we need police for, anyhow? I can watch my own neighborhood. Enough is enough!!!!
