The opening of Sugar Mommies Cakery & Corner Cafe finds two Mason women engaged in what they love — making comfort food.

Joy Knorr and daughter Jenny Warren debuted the business Friday, Aug. 28, at 101 East Main Street, on the southeast corner of Mason-Montgomery Road.

Warren, who earned a degree in baking and pastry arts, whips up cakes, fruit tarts, brownies, cookies, muffin tops, scones and specialty cupcakes of all shapes and sizes in the “cakery” portion of the business.

“My passion is in cakes and cake decorating, and this is finally a way for me to get to do that,” Warren said. “We’re actually going to have homemade breads, eventually.”

Knorr, the former owner a Sharonville restaurant, said she wanted to open a downtown Mason eatery that offered high-quality homemade products at an affordable rate.

“With everybody struggling the way it seems they are nowadays, we thought that we could offer products to everyone’s appeal for a good price and value,” Knorr said.

A soup-and-salad combo lunch special deal at the Corner Cafe costs about $6. Creating that palatable pairing means choosing from Knorr’s signature soups, including old-fashioned potato, homemade chicken noodle, white bean chicken chili and fire-roasted sausage pepper. Salad options include BLT, chef, taco, chicken and ham.

Sandwiches include a Sweet Bernie (a fried-hard salami sandwich on a hoagie roll with secret sauce and cabbage), a Cali Wrap (turkey, cheese, tomato, bacon, lettuce in a flour tortilla), a turkey croissant and more.

The mother-daughter team are using the building’s second floor for a second dining room, meeting space and wedding cake consultations, which are free.
