Children’s Theatre of Mason comes ashore this weekend with the celebrated story of literature’s most well-known Caribbean castaway.
The company and Missoula Children’s Theatre will present “The Amazing Adventures of Robinson Crusoe,” at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Mason Middle School Auditorium, 6730 Mason-Montgomery Road.
“Crusoe” marks the theatre’s 12th partnership with the traveling audition group Missoula, which cast the show Sept. 28, according to Clare Dowrey, CTM’s managing director. Rehearsals take place nightly until the show.
The musical performance features a cast of 60 young actors from ages 6 to 14.
“It’s extremely professional and the kids just love it,” Dowrey said. “This sort of gives them a taste of theater in a short amount of time.”
From Oct. 16 to 18, the company whisks audiences to the fictional city of Agrabah for Disney’s “Aladdin Jr.” at 7 p.m., Oct. 16; 2 p.m. and 7 p.m., Oct. 17; and 2 p.m. Oct. 18.
The stage adaptation of the hit movie features Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie, as well as an Academy Award-winning score with songs including “A Whole New World” and “Friend Like Me.”
Tickets costs $8 in advance by mail, $9 online using PayPal until Oct. 14, $10 at the door for adults and $8 at the door for students and seniors. Cash or check is accepted at the ticket window and refunds or ticket exchanges are not allowed.
A Missoula Performance Workshop, from Feb. 8-13, 2010, will allow budding thespians to try out for a role in “King Arthur’s Quest.” Spring 2010 will find CTM taking on Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Cinderella.”
