Keeping four-legged friends happy is a top priority for those whose schedules include extended work hours, weekend getaways and the occasional vacation.
That’s why Rob Ashe, owner of the newly opened Four Paws Pet Care and Kennel in Deerfield Twp., said he was astonished when he walked into a well-maintained major pet care business and asked about when the dogs get to play together.
“They said, ‘We just walk them twice a day for a few minutes,’ ” Ashe said. “I thought, why would you leave your dogs there for two weeks and they get out twice a day and you have to pay extra?”
Determined to offer more, Ashe opened his own pet day care and pet sitting for both dogs and cats at 8520 Landen Drive, just off Ohio 22 behind National City bank. Located on the former site of a child day care center, the air-conditioned business allows dogs to play outside all day on a full-scale playground, romp in a kiddie pool or laze in the shade.
“We only bring them in (to air-conditioned rooms) if it’s real hot, just to cool down, but they can go inside and out” whenever they want, said Ashe, who can easily list the names of each of his four-legged clientele.
What made the business good for child day care, also made it good for pet care, he said.
“We’ve got a 6-foot fence outside, so they can’t get out. The rooms are soundproof ... when the dogs are in one room, you can’t really hear them that well, so they can sleep better. (Plus) we’ve got kennels with window views,” Ashe said.
