FAIRFIELD — Ohio 4 reopened late this morning after a dump truck reportedly drove through an intersection with its bed up, knocking down power lines and shutting off traffic.

Dispatchers with the Fairfield Police Department said shortly after noon today, Nov. 3, traffic was moving on Ohio 4 following the early morning accident at Boymel Drive.

Traffic had been closed from Seward Road to Bypass Ohio 4, officials said.

The accident occurred at about 7:09 when a dump truck drove through the Boymel intersection with its bed up, officials said.

The bed caught on the power lines there and pulled them down into the roadway, according to officials from the FPD.

No injuries were reported in the incident, but police had shut down that area of Ohio 4 for what dispatchers described as “major clean-up.”

Sally Thelen, spokeswoman for Duke Energy, said one of their poles was pulled down in the accident but no damage was done to their power lines. However, the lines of other utilities that use the poles were pulled down.

“Our equipment wasn’t damaged so we didn’t have any outages as a result of the incident,” she said.

The utilities company is reporting only 53 residents are without power in Butler County.

Bill says-"What would really make the roads a safer place would be to take all the drivers over 60 years old off the roads" Bill - are you an idiot? I hate to genralize like you but it seems to me that folks my age (60)and older are the only ones not texting, talking on the phone, applying makeup and just general goofing off when driving. You're painting with a mighty wide brush, I'd say.

What would really make the roads a safer place would be to take all the drivers over 60 years old off the roads. cars and trucks. How many times do you read about an old person hitting the gas instead of the break and crashing into or killing someone. The truck driver made a mistake for sure, but most semi accidents are the fault of cars not giving them room or not paying attention and running into the back of them. look in front of you and get off the phone!
