The NWA East and Heroes of Wrestling present a night of body slamming, head smashing, drop kicking action at 7 p.m., Sat. Sept. 26 as pro wrestling comes to the Waynesville Middle School.
“This is classic pro wrestling like it used to be,” said promoter Chris Lash. “There’s no scantily clad women or jumbo-trons. Just wrestling like we grew up watching.”
Lash, who also owns Waynesville’s 89.3 FM radio station, is a newcomer to the area, but not to wrestling. He spent several years as a promoter of Allied Powers Wrestling Federation, a Northern Pennsylvania wrestling outfit. Now he is bringing NWA, the oldest wrestling organization in the world, to Ohio. The NWA was the most powerful wrestling organization for over 30 years until the national expansion of WWF (now WWE) in the 1980s.
The show is headlined by Lebanon native and national television star Sharkboy facing off against the cruel and merciless General Lee is a battle of water versus land. Also on the show is a battle for football fan superiority as Pittsburgh’s Bubba Brewer clashes with Cincinnati-based Sherman Tank the night before the Steelers and Bengals clash on the football field in Cincinnati. Other matches announced are Bobby Fulton versus Dusty Dillinger and Matt Mason facing Brian Beech with more matches to be announced.
Lash said he hopes to promote more shows in the area in the future.
“I think wrestling is coming back to more family friendly fare,” Lash said. “Even the WWE is swinging that way.”
Lash said parents wouldn’t have to worry about any risque speeches or foul language at his show, just fun, exciting action.
Tickets for the event are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under and are available at the Waynesville Area Chamber of Commerce, 10 N. Main St., Waynesville and Hometown Marketplace. Proceeds from the show will benefit the Waynesville Spartan athletics.
