The “Mother of Home Care” Wins OCHC Dorothy Royce Award

Southwest Ohio Home Care Agency Founder, Mary Jane Stumpf, Honored by Ohio Home Care Council

Cincinnati, OH –Home Care by Black Stone, a leading provider of in-home caregiving services, today announced that the “Mother of Home Care”, Mary Jane Stumpf, has won the Dorothy Royce Award, issued by the Ohio Council for Home Care & Hospice.

As the "MJ" of Home Care by Black Stone's MJ Nursing, Mary Jane was honored at the Council's annual convention. The award is named after Dorothy Royce, the founding president of the Ohio Council for Home Care, who worked to promote home care in the State of Ohio. The award honors an individual for his or her efforts to promote home care.

Well known in the Greater Cincinnati area, Mary Jane has had a distinguished career. Her former company, MJ Nursing Registry, was the first nurse-owned home health agency in the region, providing an expertise and insight that was previously lacking in the industry. Her service, known as the "MJ way," included everything from personal care to transportation to care coordination.

Stumpf also took on several advocacy roles including stints with the Ohio Department of Aging and the Hamilton County Elderly Service Program Advisory Board. She is one of the founding members of the Southwest Ohio Aging Network, a group of local providers dedicated to the advocacy of home- and community-based services.

She sold her company last year to the Black Stone Family of Care Services and continues to remain active in the company as well as involved in service and in the community. Her leadership in the OCHC message campaigns and caucus events was instrumental in obtaining a provider rate increase for the first time in over ten years.

Black Stone CEO, David Tramontana, comments, “Mary Jane exemplifies the concept of a patient advocate, supporting her patients at all levels and through all of their varied needs. She continues to constantly demonstrate her passion for the elderly and keeping them in their homes for as long as possible. We are proud to carry her name on in our MJ Nursing by Black Stone service and strive to provide service that exemplifies her distinguished reputation.”

Mary Jane Stumpf currently resides in Loveland, OH.
