With less than a week remaining in Miami University's spring football season, a number of players have caught the attention of the RedHawks coaching staff.

Here are some players who have helped themselves this spring:

Extras

Offense

Mitchell Anderson, sophomore, wide receiver. "With Dustin (Woods) out, a guy like Mitchell Anderson is getting his chance, and he's done some really good things," said Miami head coach Shane Montgomery. Like catching two touchdown passes in the scrimmage Saturday, April 19.

Thomas Merriweather, sophomore, tailback. "Right now, Thomas Merriweather is the clear-cut No. 1 at running back," Montgomery said. "I'm not sure who our No. 2 is. He has really built on what he did last fall, giving us a good combination of size (5-foot-10, 203 pounds) and speed, something we haven't had a lot of. If we can keep him going in the right direction, he has a chance to be a special back."

Ken Staudinger, redshirt freshman, offensive tackle. "He's had a really good spring," Montgomery said of the 6-foot-5, 270-pound graduate of North Canton Hoover High School. "He's moved up to third (string) at tackle."

Defense

Ryan Kennedy, sophomore, strong-side linebacker. "He keeps moving and showing he can make plays," said Jay Hood, Miami defensive coordinator and associate head coach. Kennedy is listed on Miami's depth chart as the backup to junior Caleb Bostic.

Jordan Stevens, sophomore, defensive end. "He's playing faster and more aggressively," Hood said of Stevens, who is No. 2 on Miami's two-deep roster behind junior Travis Craven.

Robbie Wilson, senior, strong safety. Although Wilson is a veteran standout and a Jim Thorpe Award candidate, Hood has been extra impressed with his play this spring. "Even though he's an old guy," Hood said, "he's been working hard to correct some minor things. He's had his best spring in a couple years."
