Monroe kicks off search for new coach
Saturday, April 26, 2008
MONROE — The first stages of the search for a new Monroe High School varsity football coach have begun. Retiring Monroe Athletic Director John Singleton says that, while a definitive timeline for the selection process itself hasn't been finalized, job notices have been sent out to several high school football-related Web sites in the state.
"We're a bit up against the wall already, but we want to be thorough in what we do at this point," Singleton said.

The Hornets' most recent coach, Jason Krause, was named the new varsity head coach at Middletown on Thursday, pending school board approval Monday. Singleton said he plans to meet with Monroe Superintendent Elizabeth Lolli and Principal Bob Leahy to hammer out a timeline for the hiring process "sometime over the weekend. We should have a definite schedule by Monday, I would guess."
On Thursday, Lolli said she believes the school district will take applications for "about the next two weeks" and go through the interviewing process. She said Singleton and incoming Athletic Director Dave Bauer, who will replace Singleton in August, will begin the process.
"They'll pick a couple of top candidates and, hopefully, by the May 27 board (of education) meeting, we will have someone to appoint for the position," Lolli said.
Krause, who will complete the school year as a Monroe teacher and coach of the Hornets track team, led the football team to a 35-15 overall record in four seasons at Monroe, including trips to the state semifinals in 2005 (Division IV) and 2007 (Division III). The Hornets were 11-3 last season.
Interested coaching candidates can send a letter of application and a resume to: The Monroe Athletic Department, 220 Yankee Road, Monroe, OH 45050.
