SHARONVILLE — For the second straight year, Mason High's boys tennis team will send three players to the Division I district tournament.

And it's the same trio from a year ago.

Extras

At the sectional tournament Tuesday, May 13, at Princeton High School, senior Chris Hall qualified in singles, while seniors Bobby Eberhard and Sameam Shahrestani, again, moved on in doubles.

The sectional semifinals and finals begin at 1 p.m. today, May 15, at Princeton to determine district seeding.

"It's amazing," Mason coach Linda Kirtley said. "We had hoped to take both doubles, but we're happy to have at least three because not everybody does. They're all seniors, and that's really nice for them."

Senior Brian Caprio and junior Naeem Shahrestani — the fourth seed — lost in the district-qualifying round to Loveland's Chris and Austin Stahl, 6-3, 6-4.

Hall, the third seed, defeated Lakota East's Robert Pitman 7-5, 6-4 in the quarterfinals, while Eberhard and Sameam Shahrestani, the second seed, ousted Princeton's Lee Lonegran and Rohan Hemani

6-4, 6-4.

Hall lost just one game until meeting up with Pitman for the third time this season.

"I'm happy that Chris was able to play three matches and end up on top," Kirtley said. "It's always been extremely close with Pitman. That was a great win."

Eberhard and Shahrestani needed just two matches to get back to districts. They defeated Lakota West's Chris Arozarena and Mike Girardot 6-2, 6-2 in their first match.

"It's awesome," Eberhard said. "It was a tough draw, but we played well. We pulled through. We played solid. It was fun."

Sophomore Trevor Maxim won a pair of matches before losing to top seed Wyatt Lippert of Lakota West, 6-0, 6-0.

Fellow sophomore Mike Wilhelm defeated East's Scott Amlung 6-2, 6-0 before falling to district qualifier Rico Weaver of Princeton, 6-1, 6-0.
