Maybe this was payback for Justin Masterson.

The former Beavercreek High School standout baseball player pitched his third major-league game Tuesday, June 3.

Masterson left in the sixth inning trailing 4-3, but the Red Sox scored four in their half of the inning for an eventual 7-4 win, giving Masterson (2-0, 2.95 ERA) the victory over AL East-leading Tampa Bay.

That may have made up for Masterson's April 24 start when he allowed just two hits but was done in by the bullpen.

Called up again due to injuries to Boston's pitching staff, Masterson may get to stick around.

"It would be nice to let him pitch and then get to talk to him, instead of sending him down," Red Sox manager Terry Francona told MLB.com before the game. "But we'll see how things go."
