Eight Miami Valley baseball standouts earned first-team spots on the 2008 All-Ohio high school baseball team.

Highlighting the contingent was the Springboro dynamic duo of pitcher Chuck Ghysels and slugger Adam Bailey. The teams were selected by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association.

"This is an incredible honor and I owe a lot to my teammates for the great defense and run support," Ghysels said. "We had a great run and I was able to help out. I had control problems earlier in the year, but I told myself, 'start pounding the zone. Your stuff is dirty enough to get people out.' "

Fireballer Ghysels, a University of Dayton recruit who registers 91 mph on the radar gun, notched a 7-1 record and 1.38 ERA. Bailey (Murray State) clouted nine home runs and batted .475. Teammate Cory Hough (.500 and 7 HRs), a first baseman-pitcher, landed on the second team. They led Springboro to a 25-5 record.

Joining the pair on the Division I first team were Centerville's stellar shortstop Mike Steinke and Sidney outfielder Brad Yinger. Steinke hit .446 with five home runs.

"Mike's big-time plays have been a thing of beauty, whether he is charging a slow roller or ranging deep in the hole," said Centerville coach Terry Dickten.

Headlining the D-II first team was outfielder Chris Hardy of Oakwood. Hardy batted .528 with 26 RBIs and three home runs. Hardy's teammate Andrew Carpenter, a Michigan State recruit who hit .483 with 26 RBIs, was second team along with Valley View hitting machine Brian Blasik (.543 with 8 HRs and 46 RBIs).

Second-team honors also went to Tippecanoe outfielder Allen Comer and Springfield Northwestern infielder Tyler Stephenson.

First-team honors in D-III went to outfielder Ryan Geier (.587) of final four qualifier Coldwater (27-5) and designed hitter Nick Bruns of St. Henry. Southeastern's Aaron Woods collected first-team honors in D-IV.

Infielder Aaron Bingham of Dixie and Cory Klenke of Coldwater made second team D-II while Fort Loramie three-year catcher Derek Coverstone and Lehman Catholic's Tyler Cianciola earned second team D-IV.
